PELOX Pickling Products
Pickling of Stainless Steel Surfaces
The pickling of stainless steel is a chemical process that thoroughly removes any oxide or other impurities lingering on the surface of the metal and allows the formation of a new passive layer.
The corrosion resistance of stainless steel can only be guaranteed when the surface is free of impurities like annealing colours (for example after welding), drilling emulsion residuals, rust film, or ferrite impregnations present after moulding processes.
Depending on the actual task, structure, and surface size of the stainless steel, different pickling products should be used.
PICKLING PASTE / GEL
Pickling paste removes annealing colours, welding scale, and corrosive deposits in the area of welding and/or heat-affected zones of stainless steel materials.
- Suitable for all types of stainless steel
- Shorter reaction times
- Stronger pickling action
- Easier final rinsing
- Removes the black welding scale and weld discolouration/corrosion
- Thick viscous gel offering the longest moisture phase in the market – the longer the moisture phase, the better the reaction time for a cleaner result
- Very efficient with minimal to no manual cleaning afterwards; only one application is needed in most cases
- Longer shelf-life
- pickling paste has a long shelf-life

PICKLING SPRAY
Pickling spray removes annealing colours, welding scale, and corrosion products from stainless steel surfaces.
- Suitable for all types of stainless steel
- Best suited for larger objects
- The highly visible red colour indicator achieves controllable spraying, more economical use, and a reduction of emission of poisonous and nitrous gases
- Material surfaces are brightened and show a brilliant optical effect and a uniform finish
- Very efficient with minimal to no manual cleaning afterwards; only one application is needed in most cases
- Long moisture phase – the longer the moisture phase, the better the reaction time for a cleaner result
- Shorter reaction times
- Stronger pickling action

PICKLING BATH (Concentrate)
- The most efficient method to remove the black welding scale and other contaminants from stainless steel
- Results in a uniform finish on the whole unit
- Excellent for structures that are produced repeatedly – Customise your pickling bath to accommodate various-sized structures
- Increases efficiency and reduces the cost
- 1:1 Dilution rate (always add to water, not concentrate first)
- The bath can be topped up when needed
- Does not contain hydrochloric or sulphuric acids
- Shorter reaction times
- Stronger pickling action
- Easier final rinsing
- Longer shelf-life

PASSIVATION LIQUID
- It is not possible to pickle and passivate in one process – passivating is a separate step
- Restores the passive layer on the stainless steel within 30 minutes – The passive layer is removed by pickling, bead blasting, or any form of abrasive work and ensures a corrosion-resistant surface and reduction of cross-contamination
- Highly recommended for any stainless steel structure close to the coast, and the pharmaceutical, food & beverage, healthcare, and petrochemical industries

Before & After
ALUMINIUM PICKLING SPRAY
- Removes oxides, annealing colours, and contaminants on aluminium.
- Gives an even surface finish ideal for painting or powder coating.
- Can be brushed on, sprayed on, or used as a bath.
Test before use as different grades of aluminium react differently.
